Jacob deGrom just can’t catch a break. A few weeks ago, it was reported that the New York Mets ace pitcher was nearing a return to action for his team. Unfortunately, deGrom suffered a minor setback during the All-Star break when he experienced some tightness. It was a worrying sign for the ace, who had been gone from the mound for the entirety of the season.
As it turns out, though, that “setback” was just a blip in his recovery. A few days after the reported setback, Jacob deGrom continued his injury rehab by playing a simulated game. The Mets pitches threw sixty pitches in five innings during the game. Afterwards, deGrom said that he was feeling good after that run. (via Anthony DiComo)

The Mets are locked in a tight race for the top of the NL East division. They once held a firm lead on the division, but a resurgent Braves team suddenly threatened their pole position. In order to skip the Wild Card round, the Mets are hoping they can get some reinforcements during the final stretch of the 2022 season. A healthy deGrom would be an insane confidence boost for this franchise, as they look to break their playoff drought.
As for deGrom, the Mets ace is looking to return to the World Series for the first time since 2015. Back then, the then-sophomore pitcher had a lackluster showing in his only start of the series. Now, he’s primed and ready for a redemption tour to nab the first ring of his career.
